Happy Military Appreciation Month! Military members and their families deserve so much for their service to our country. That is probably an understatement. And to show a token of appreciation, hundreds of companies in every industry offer discounts or benefits for military members and their families—especially in the month of May.
Here are just 5 places you can have a few extra perks for your military service
1. At the Airport
All military members, including cadets and midshipmen of service academies, are eligible for TSA PreCheck for personal and professional travel. According to the TSA, just enter your 10-digit DOD number located on the back of the common access card as your known traveler number when making flight reservations or when updating your Defense Travel System profile for official travel. But they also encourage military members to apply for TSA PreCheck to receive expedited screening.
2. At the Dealership
When buying a new car, always ask about the military discount. Dealerships like Toyota, Jeep, Subaru, and more, offer anywhere from $500-$1,000 savings off the top of a car or will offer a $500 rebate or bonus cash for military members (and even members of their household at some dealerships). As a bonus, you could also use NFCU’s car-buying service for the best deals and discounts from dealerships in your area.
3. At the Credit Union or Bank
Some banks, and especially military credit unions, offer special deals and incentives during Military Appreciation Month. For example, Navy Federal offers $250 cashback when you spend $3,000 in 90 days when you open their cashRewards card. You could get a $200 bonus if you refinance an auto loan from another lender for over $5,000 and a $30 bonus for a special EasyStart Certificate with 3 qualifying automatic transfers within 60 days of opening. Why say no to free money, right?
Plus, during the month of May, you have a chance to win $1,000 when you join the #MissionMilitaryThanks Contest. You just have to find a cherished memento from you or a loved one’s time in service and share a photo of it along with a story about why it is special to you. Deadline to share your photo is June 1st. Find out more at https://militarythanks.navyfederal.org.
4. At Theme Parks (Including The Mouse)
Theme parks around the country provide special rates for military members and their families. In fact, the military park hopper tickets at Disneyland and Disney World are some of the best-priced tickets available. A 3-Day Park Hopper at Disneyland is currently $245, which rounds up to about $82/day. And for just another $35, you can have a 4-Day Park Hopper for $280 (which comes out to just $70/day). Disney World has similar deals where military members can get a 5-Day Hopper ticket for $369 or 4-Day Hopper Option for $349 plus tax. They also offer discounts on resort hotel stays as well as vacation packages for both U.S. based locations.
Besides Disney, other theme parks like Six Flags, Universal, SeaWorld and even Dollywood also have specially priced tickets for military members and their families.
5. Online and In-Store
When shopping in stores or online on anything from clothes, shoes, and jewelry to cell phone plans, home internet, and a new computer. Use Shop.ID.Me to find some of the best active discounts around the web, as well as veteran.com for a great list of military discounts available this year.
Don’t leave free money on the table! Always ask if there is a military discount whenever you shop. Use that military discount because you deserve it!
