A new anthology drama series from Apple TV+, Extrapolations, depicts a futuristic earth through various interconnected viewpoints and different decades — from 2037 to 2070. Helmed by Scott Z. Burns, the screenwriter for The Bourne Ultimatum and Contagion, the trailer teases a future similar to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, with sweeping changes to Earth leaving humans with problems to solve.

“What if we were able to develop technology that would allow us to survive, maybe even thrive?” asks one of the star-studded cast members.
From the official synopsis: Every story is different, but the fight for our future is universal. And when the fate of humanity is up against a ticking clock, the battle between courage and complacency has never been more urgent.
“It won’t go the way you want. It never does.”
The Verge shared a fun synopsis of the science behind Extrapolations — what’s realistic (rising global temperatures affecting the health of coral reefs) and what’s perhaps less likely (walrus rage?). From desalination to the controversial concept of de-extinction, the first few episodes begin in familiar territory, though I can only guess what will happen by 2070.
The series stars Meryl Streep, Sienna Miller, Kit Harington, Daveed Diggs, Edward Norton, Diane Lane, Tahar Rahim, Yara Shahidi, Matthew Rhys, Gemma Chan, David Schwimmer, Adarsh Gourav, Keri Russell, Marion Cotillard, Forest Whitaker, Eiza González, Murray Bartlett, Indira Varma, Tobey Maguire, MaameYaa Boafo, Hari Nef, Heather Graham, Michael Gandolfini, Cherry Jones, Gaz Choudhry, Ben Harper, Judd Hirsch, and Neska Rose.
The first three episodes of Extrapolations launched on March 17, 2023, and continue to be released weekly on Apple TV+.
