For some people, buying gifts during the holiday season or special occasions comes easy. Some folks are just really good at choosing gifts for their friends or family. For those of us not blessed with that talent, figuring out what to buy someone can be like pulling teeth. Gift-giving can become even more of a challenge when the person you are buying for isn’t great at dropping hints. For the folks who struggle in the gift-giving arena, a list of ideas can help a lot.
Some lists can be too broad. You may see anything from a cutting board to a gaming laptop listed. The best practice is to look for something that fits in with your loved ones’ hobbies or needs. For that reason, I have put together a list of 10 gift ideas for the person in your life who can’t seem to stay out of the gym. I will try to avoid brand recommendations as budget, features and reliability are all factors when purchasing a gift.

1. Resistance bands
Resistance bands have become a staple in resistance training for a reason. They are versatile, very portable and generally inexpensive. Bands are perfect for people who want to hit the gym but often find themselves in a situation where one isn’t available. So if you know someone who travels a lot for work and likes to stay in shape, this may be the gift for them.
2. Suspension training systems
Suspension training systems utilize adjustable straps and handles along with the user’s body weight. They are a great tool for resistance training. Just like bands, these systems are very portable. Another great option for frequent travelers or someone looking to get in some reps with limited equipment and exercise area.
3. Weighted vests
Weighted vests are by far one of the most popular fitness tools utilized today. These vests usually have multiple pockets designed to hold small weights. These weights can be added or removed to achieve the overall goal weight. These vests can be worn during bodyweight movements such as squats and push-ups to add extra resistance. They are also great for runners too. The only downside to their portability is the weight. Many weighted vests can total upwards of 40-50 pounds and beyond. Something that heavy may cause some issues while traveling — especially when flying.
4. Exercise log books
Many people traded in their notebooks for cell phones long ago. We all know the benefits of writing vs. typing so I won’t list them here. I will say that there are still many people who prefer to handwrite their notes rather than typing them. Exercise log books are a perfect idea for someone who keeps track of their reps, sets and times. They are quite inexpensive, too.
5. Headphones
If you’ve ever stepped foot in a commercial gym, then you know the music playlists can be random at best. Since many people enjoy listening to music while they exercise, being able to listen to what they want can go a long way. Headphones are always a good gift idea. With so many options available, it’s quite easy to find a pair that can fit your loved one’s needs and your budget. A word of advice would be to make sure the headphones are water-resistant at the very least. You’d hate to have your gift ruined over a little sweat.
6. Wearable fitness trackers
Wearable fitness trackers have been around for years now. Watches are often the most common but, there are also rings and bands people can wear. Many will count your steps, track movement, monitor heart rate, and even keep track of overall recovery. Use caution though, as the accuracy of readings can vary from device to device.
7. Blender
I know this one seems to stick out a bit but hear me out. A blender is perfect for making smoothies and other healthy meal options at home. With so many of us fighting the clock in the mornings, a quick and healthy breakfast option is perfect for eliminating some of the rush. Many companies even make small versions designed with portability in mind. Perfect for people who take their protein shakes on the go.
8. Fitness supplements
This one comes with a caveat. Fitness supplements can make great gifts if you know the types of supplements, brands and flavors the person likes. If you don’t know, you can always get them a gift card to their favorite supplement store.
9. Fitness apparel
This is another suggestion that requires a bit of information upfront. We all know sizing can be a pain in the rear. As with fitness supplements, if you don’t know, you can get them a gift card. This one seems super simple, and it is. Some gym memberships can be north of $50/month. Luckily, many gyms offer gift certificates. A few months to a year of a free membership can go a long way.
